Happenings at the Capitol
With less than one hour remaining before the constitutional deadline for adjournment of the legislative session at midnight on Monday, May 22, legislative leaders and Gov. Mark Dayton announced that they had reached an overall budget agreement. They also announced that to complete the budget, Gov. Dayton would call a special session to begin 12:01 AM, May 23 with legislative leaders agreeing to end the special session by 7:00 AM on Wednesday, May 24.
In order to allow staff time to complete drafting of budget bills, both the House and the Senate have adjourned until 3:00 PM, Tuesday, May 23.
Only five budget bills were agreed to and passed by the legislature before the deadline leaving budget bills for transportation, K-12 education, health and human services, taxes and bonding ($990M) to be passed during the special session.
As of writing this update, the language for these bills had yet to be made public but is expected to be available beginning on Tuesday morning giving legislators time to review each bill before voting.
Bill details will be contained in a legislative update to be sent out later this week. You can watch an archive of the press conference here.
