North Metro Mayors Minute for May 17, 2017—Crisis Communications and Top Golf Announcement
The attendees at the May 17 North Metro Mayors Association Board meeting were among the first to learn Top Golf is looking to open their first Minnesota location in Brooklyn Center. Mayor Tim Willson and City Manager Curt Boganey are excited about 400+ new jobs and more coming to the North Metro. From Community Partner PSD, the meeting host,we learned about a couple of building projects, including the industrial park on the drawing board for Ramsey. Matt Kuker, with PSD, says the congestion on highway 10 is sometimes an insurmountable hurdle to getting businesses to locate in this part of the metro. He encouraged continued collaboration for additional improvements to highway 10
Collaboration was the theme of comments from Elwyn Tinklenberg, our guest speaker. El was the mayor of Blaine in the 1980s when conversations about forming the North Metro Mayors Association took place between him, Coon Rapids Mayor Lewis and Brooklyn Park Mayor Krautkremer. El commended the group for30 years of collaborating to make significant impacts on important projects and policy issues, like highway 610, fiscal disparities, metropolitan governance, housing, and more.
Special thanks goes to members of our crisis communications panel, Heidi Andrea from the City of Blaine, Corie Lindemann from Alliana Health, and Becca Virden fromCenterPoint Energy. Prior to the Board meeting, they offered tips on working with media, employees and the public, using traditional and non-traditional tools. The panel drew new people to the meeting, both city staff and Community Partners. Let me know of other topics you’d like to explore.
