North Metro Mayors Minute for January 2021
All Hail the Chief
Inauguration week happened to be the same week the North Metro Mayors Association re-elected Coon Rapids Mayor Jerry Koch president and Champlin Mayor Ryan Karasek vice president for their second two-year terms. Serving his first two-year term as treasurer is Circle Pines City Administrator Patrick Antonen. Congratulations and thank you, gentlemen. Bylaws allow two, two-year consecutive terms for our officers. Our outgoing treasurer, Ramsey City Administrator Kurt Ulrich, will be recognized and celebrated when we’re able to convene at least a few people in person for a board meeting. Thank you, Kurt, for four years of impeccable service.
Legislative Plan Adopted
Ewald staff have their work cut out for them. And, they’re up for the job. The 2021 legislative action plan adopted by the board includes transportation advocacy (amplifying the voices of workgroups for 10, 65, 1-94, 252, 169, Connect Blue Line Now!); specific transportation projects (10, 610, 65, 252, CSAH funding, MnDOT fund for maintenance of noise walls); rail crossings; fiscal policy; governance; and additional issues covering public safety, housing, elections, licensing agents, recreation, quality of life, and water. Got questions? Contact Troy Olsen, government relations, at email@example.com. And, please return the contact forms distributed with the meeting packet so Troy can find you at a moment’s notice during the legislative session. Thanks.
Welcome, Rep. Lee
Rep. Lee, chair of the House Capital Investment Committee, spoke to the group during the board meeting. We learned he values racial justice and climate change. Getting to know what makes decision makers tick is a benefit of NMMA membership. Another key benefit is the opportunity to let decision makers know what’s important to the region.
Operating Committee meets via Zoom Feb. 17. Coon Rapids is host. The full board meets March 17, at 5:30 or 6 p.m. The host is Andover. Watch for details on whether the meeting is all Zoom or a hybrid.
Watch for an invite from Comcast to a virtual event on February 25, 2021, beginning at 4 p.m. It will celebrate the documentary, “A Most Beautiful Thing,” that chronicles the first African American high school rowing team in the country.
